Description

Production Managing is challenging, exciting and a critical role for any production. Making the step up to PM can be daunting for any PC as you hone your already excellent organisational and logistical skills further and develop your managerial and leadership abilities. Whatever genre you work in, this modular course will furnish you with a thorough knowledge base of the critical skills necessary to become an excellent and effective PM. Using interactive seminars, practical exercises, workshops and industry examples, you will come away a strong foundation with which to build your career further and excel as a PM. After our successful pilot of the first course, we are now rolling out this programme nationally, in London, Manchester and Gateshead.

Course content: The course will break down into 5 modules to be run across a week. Course participants can pick and choose the number of modules to attend.

Module 1 - 18th July 2016

Overview of Production Management

• Facilitated discussion identifying the essential role and responsibilities of a Production Manager

• Interactive session covering the stages of pre-production, production and post-production

Genres - similarities and differences across scripted and non-scripted

• Group work discussing the similarities and differences across genres based on real life examples and experiences Production from pre to post – who does what and why?

• Practical exercise identifying the required roles throughout an entire production

• Interactive session discussing the key HODs and their departments and ensuring role types / jargon used are explained thoroughly

Setting up a project – what to think about and your relationship with the Producer

• Practical exercise to discuss and present what a PM needs to consider when setting up a project

• Critique of the work and review

• Seminar on healthy interdependence, communication and joint responsibilities between you and your Producer.

Effective scheduling - how to initially assess a project and break it down

• An interactive introduction to scheduling – across different genres

• Key considerations of an effective and efficient schedule

• How to breakdown storylines/pitch documents/formats and scripts into schedules

• Practical exercise using a drama script to create an initial schedule using certain given parameters

• A guide to the skill of re-scheduling effectively and quickly • Review and critique of work

• Q and A

Car parking: The Greenhouse does not have its own car park but there is a multi story car park signposted off Broadway, which is the main road to MediaCityUK (coins, notes or pay-by-mobile)

if you are using public transport:

Trains from Victoria or Piccadilly stations link you direct to the Tram network, and you can get a MediaCityUK tram straight to the location, The Greenhouse is a 5 minute walk from the Tram stop.

Alternatively you can also get the number 50 bus from Manchester Oxford Road to MediaCityUK.

Cancellation Policy

We appreciate that when circumstances change you may no longer be able to attend a training course date you have already booked and paid for.

Whilst we will always try our best to accommodate any alterations to your plans, BECTU has a standard cancellation policy which is as follows:

  • if you notify us (phone/email) 3 full days or longer before the scheduled course date you will not be charged and will be refunded in full any course fees you have paid.
  • for any cancellation you make that is less than 3 full days before the course date, you will be charged 50% of the total course fee with 50% refunded. This is unless you can demonstrate to us extenuating circumstances.
  • if you do not attend the course and/or fail to notify us in advance you will be charged the full course fee.
  • we are unable to reimburse any non-transferable travel or accommodation expenses that may arise from a course being re-scheduled or cancelled.

BECTU reserves the right to cancel courses without liability. However, where possible, delegates will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
